Headline text has to survive a very small canvas
Thumbnail wording competes with faces, props, color, and the YouTube interface. Even a useful phrase can become noise when it is too long, too thin, or placed over a visually busy part of the image.
Basic Text separates lettering from image generation. You control the actual characters and their canvas treatment, which makes spelling predictable and revisions immediate. The tradeoff is editorial responsibility: the tool cannot decide whether the phrase is necessary or legible on a phone.

The text input is capped at 120 characters. Blank lines are removed and up to four non-empty lines are rendered. You can use preset styles or choose Impact, Arial, Georgia, or Monospace, then set alignment, weight, color, opacity, uppercase, size, line spacing, curve, and canvas position.
The overlay can be dragged, resized, rotated, or skewed directly on the preview. Stroke, shadow, two-color gradient fill, and optional snap guides provide separation and placement help. Background blocks can share one style or target individual lines, words, or sentences with their own color and opacity choices. Saving folds the overlay into a new zero-credit Quick Edit image.

Text Size and Position
Sets type size and X/Y placement, with drag and resize handles available on the preview.
Check the smallest intended display size before committing to a thin margin or narrow line.
Rotation and Skew Handles
Turns or slants the text box directly on the canvas overlay.
Use angled type to reinforce composition, not to compensate for an overcrowded phrase.
Stroke and Shadow
Adds an adjustable outline and optional shadow around the glyphs.
Increase separation only as far as the letterforms remain clean at thumbnail scale.
Gradient Fill
Blends between chosen start and end colors across the text.
Keep both colors distinct from the image behind them; novelty alone does not improve contrast.
Snap Guides
Snaps dragged text near common horizontal and vertical composition targets.
Turn snapping off when deliberate optical alignment matters more than geometric alignment.
Background Blocks
Adds color and opacity behind the full block or selected lines, words, and sentences.
A restrained block can rescue contrast over a detailed image without thickening the letters excessively.

Read the rendered text character by character, inspect all four edges, and save the result as a new Quick Edit version rather than replacing the source record.
Check: Have spelling, line breaks, contrast, and interface-safe placement been checked manually?
Hypothetical: add a two-line outcome headline
Setup
A restoration video thumbnail shows a rusty tool and a clean finished version, but the contrast between them is not obvious at first glance.
Action
The creator enters 'RUSTED / TO RESTORED' on two lines, uses Impact with center alignment, adds a modest dark stroke, and places the block in open space using snap guides.
Practical result
The saved Quick Edit would preserve the exact typed phrase in a separate zero-credit version for visual comparison.
Lesson
Manual text makes the lettering controllable, but the creator still has to judge whether the words clarify the promise or merely repeat the picture.
