Editing without versions turns every experiment into a commitment
A crop can look better at full size and worse in a feed. An inpaint replacement can solve one flaw while introducing another. When only the latest result is visible, it is difficult to compare honestly or return to the stronger starting point.
Version History keeps recent saved outputs as separate records. The timeline is intentionally practical: it shows what created each item, when it was saved, and whether an edit came from an earlier source. It should still be treated as an active workspace, not as permanent custody for finished assets.
Best for
Comparing a generated thumbnail with later inpaint and manual Quick Edit alternatives.

Recent saved outputs form a labeled working timeline
The history API sorts thumbnail records newest first and returns up to 100. The sidebar labels ordinary outputs as Generation, inpaint outputs as AI edit, and manual canvas saves as Quick edit. Each item includes a preview, relative time, prompt, settings summary, and a source note when linked to an earlier image.
Selecting an available image returns it to the Studio view. Inpaint selections can reconstruct their linked display chain from source IDs available in current history and canvas state. Deleting one item requires confirmation; Clear All History has a separate confirmation and removes all of the user's thumbnail records, with storage cleanup attempted by the API.

Version Card
Shows a saved preview, relative time, prompt, settings summary, and version number.
Open the card whose visual result you recognize, not merely the one with the newest timestamp.
Generation, AI Edit, and Quick Edit Badges
Identifies whether the record came from generation, inpaint, or the manual canvas editor.
Use the badge to understand what kind of change is possible to reproduce or revise.
Select Version
Returns the chosen valid history image to the active Studio canvas.
Selecting restores the working view; it does not create another duplicate history record by itself.
Delete Thumbnail
Removes one confirmed record and requests deletion of its stored image.
Export anything important elsewhere before confirming because history has no undelete control.
Clear All History
Deletes all thumbnail records for the current user after a second confirmation.
Reserve this for a deliberate workspace reset, not routine visual decluttering.
Source Revision Note
Marks edit records that carry a source image ID from a previous version.
Use the link context to compare an edit with the image that prompted it while both remain available.
How to use Thumbnail Version History
A short process that keeps the tool inside a real thumbnail decision.
Open the recent timeline
Launch Version History and scan the previews, timestamps, and creation badges before selecting a candidate.
Check: Can you identify whether the version was generated, inpainted, or manually edited?
Restore a candidate to the canvas
Select a valid version card to bring that saved output back into the Studio view. For linked inpaint work, inspect the available source chain as well.
Check: Is the intended image now active without creating an unnecessary duplicate?
Compare before continuing
Review the restored image against neighboring revisions and decide whether to edit it, download it, or return to another version.
Check: Does the chosen version solve the original problem without losing a stronger earlier quality?
Remove records with intent
Delete a single disposable version or use the confirmed clear-all action only after important images have been exported to storage you control.
Check: Would losing the selected records permanently interrupt any active comparison or delivery task?
Hypothetical: return from an overprocessed variant
Setup
A creator generates a strong base, makes an inpaint revision to replace a prop, then saves a Quick Edit with much heavier contrast.
Action
In Version History, the creator compares the Generation, AI edit, and Quick edit badges, restores the inpaint result to the canvas, and leaves the other records untouched for one last review.
Practical result
The inpaint version would become the active Studio image again without charging a credit or overwriting the other saved candidates.
Lesson
History supports reversible creative decisions while records exist; it is not a promise that every asset will remain stored indefinitely.

The current history query returns at most the newest 100 saved thumbnail records.
History is a working revision timeline, not permanent archival or backup storage.
Individual and clear-all deletions are destructive, and the interface has no restore-after-delete action.
Source chains depend on linked records still being available; deleting a source can remove useful revision context.

How many thumbnail versions can I see?
The current history endpoint sorts records newest first and limits the response to 100 versions across generations and edits.
What do the history labels mean?
Generation is a standard generated output, AI edit is an inpaint result, and Quick edit is a manual canvas export saved from the quick editor.
Does selecting an older version cost credits?
No. Selecting a saved item returns it to the canvas. A later inpaint submission or new generation can have its own cost, but history selection itself does not.
Is Version History a permanent backup?
No. Do not rely on it as permanent archival storage or on a specific retention window. Download approved deliverables and keep them in storage you manage.
